Edgar Koehler Memorial Award - Overview and Criteria
The College’ effective and successful governance since its inception in 2002 has been in large part a product of dedicated volunteers. The Edgar Koehler Memorial Award has been established in memory of Edgar Koehler, Public Member of the College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists (CAPFT/The College) and will recognize an individual associated with the College who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment as a volunteer.
Edgar Koehler has been an esteemed public member of the CAPFT Council from 2007 to 2013. Edgar has made a significant contribution to the College and approached his role with enthusiasm and dedication. He has provided the College with support and knowledge while acting as an advocate for the organization, its members and the public it serves. This award is granted in memory of Edgar Koehler to a volunteer who makes outstanding contributions to the College and displays the exceptional qualities set by this Public Member.
Forest Technologist Professional Achievement Award - Form
The College has been in existence since April 26, 2002. The College’s mission is "the College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists will promote the professional management of all forested land in the Province of Alberta"
The Forest Technologist Professional Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated professionalism in the field of forestry that promotes the principles of the College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists (CAPFT).
Professional Exam Achievement Award
The College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists (CAPFT) recognizes the individual who achieves the highest mark in the professional exam every year at the AGM.

Forest Technology Professional Award
First established and presented in April 2007, this award recognizes the academic achievements of the students and promotes the colleges’ ongoing commitment to the development of professional excellence for graduates and representatives of the Forest Technology program.
The first year of CAPFT membership and a cheque for $500.00 will be issued to the successful graduate who is currently a student member of the College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists and has achieved the highest average mark in the following 3 courses: Communications for Forestry, Professional Development, and Forest Policy.
Harvest Plan Award
Each year the second year Forest Technology class works on an Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for a particular forest planning area. This major project, (approximately 170 hrs of work) which is usually assigned to groups of two, begins in early November and is completed by late January of the next semester.
After a short 5-10 minute presentation to a panel of two to five individuals from industry and NAIT the project is submitted and assessed by the instructor. The top plans are then identified and forwarded to an outside industry source for a final viewing and selection process.
The successful group members will each receive a cheque for $500.00 and there first year’s membership from the College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists. In addition the winners will have their names engraved on an annual trophy that will be displayed at the NAIT main campus Forest Technology program area.
